This is the same class I have run for the last 15 years from NMIT.
It is open to absolute beginners to join at any time and those returning to continue with their personalised wardrobe.
Suitable for all skill levels. Beginners will learn to draft and fit basic block patterns with simplified sewing and fashion applications. Commencing creation with a skirt or T-shirt block pattern. Once fitted and completed they will then move on to creating the trouser, then bodice and sleeve block patterns.
Using these individually fitted pattern blocks as the base to draft from, students will go onto design, style and create personalised patterns to make their own wardrobe from.
Learning how to correctly fit a garment is an important component of this class.
While drafting patterns you will also learn easy sewing techniques to simplify sewing for better quality results. You will gain an insight into shortcut styling possibilities to elevate your home sewing to that next level designer ‘finish’.
Students can then use these techniques to create for either themselves or others.
Please note students will progress over various class sessions (as determined by the individual). Depending on progress, for example, a student may finish the skirt block in their first set of classes and then their trouser block in the second.
These classes will give you the skills required to make easy to use patterns to sew styles that you have designed, love and fit you. Clothing created for you, by you, to wear and enjoy over a lifetime. You can also apply your acquired skills to create for friends and family if you desire.
