Hot Tips - Sewing Made Easy
These classes are available once a week for 6 weeks (15 hours) or as a one day workshop (6 hours). Please note the once a week classes incorporate the following, however will roll over and continue on from the week before.
The Hot Tips – Sewing Made Easy classes are a series of hands-on workshops focused on simplifying sewing techniques through "cheat" methods. Each session covers specific aspects of sewing, pattern drafting, and garment construction. Participants will complete samples to reinforce learning and can choose between multi-week courses or one-day workshops.
Key Features Across All Classes:
Small class size (limited to 10 students)
Morning and afternoon tea provided
Students are encouraged to bring their own sewing machines

Comparison:
Beginner-friendly: Part 1 (basic sewing techniques like zips, buttons) and Part 5 (seam finishes, sleeve insertion).
Intermediate: Part 2 (collars) and Part 4 (various zip insertions).
Advanced: Part 3a and 3b (pockets with couture finishing).
Part 1: Basic Construction
Key Techniques: Zip insertion (jean-style, fly), waistbands, closures, buttons, buttonholes
Schedule: March 3 – April 7 (Mondays) or Jan 27 (1-day workshop). 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Part 2: Collars
Key Techniques: 1-piece fall collar (Peter Pan, flat), 2-piece stand & fall collar (classic shirt)
Schedule: April 28 – June 9 (Mondays, except June 2) or April 14 (1-day workshop). 9.30am – 3.30pm.
Cost: $235 (multi-week) / $115 (1-day)
Part 3a: Advanced Pockets
Key Techniques: Welt pockets, double jet pockets (also used for couture buttonholes)
Schedule: June 30 – Aug 4 (Mondays) or June 2 (1-day workshop). 9.30am – 3.30pm.
Cost: $235 (multi-week) / $115 (1-day)
Part 3b: More Pocket Styles
Key Techniques: Patch pockets (visible/hidden stitching), side angle, concealed pockets
Schedule: Runs parallel with Part 3a or June 16 (1-day workshop). 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Part 4: Zipper Techniques
Key Techniques: Invisible zips, standard zips, exposed teeth zips
Schedule: Sept 15 – Oct 20 (Mondays) or Aug 11 (1-day workshop). 9.30am – 3.30pm.

Part 5: Seam Finishing & Sleeves
Key Techniques: Bound, French, overlocked seams, sleeve insertion (fit & pitch)
Schedule: Nov 3 – Dec 8 (Mondays) or Aug 25 (1-day workshop). 9.30am – 3.30pm.
Cost: $235 (multi-week) / $115 (1-day) + $15 materials fee.
