Earlier Painted Works

Larisse Hall’s earlier painted works lay the foundational themes that would permeate her later, light-infused pieces. Developed over several years, these paintings are rich in symbolism and created to explore the anthropomorphic expressions of human connections and relationships.

Central to these works is the motif of the circle, an evocative symbol that Larisse uses to represent the profound bond of the 'mother and child' embrace. This imagery resonates deeply with themes of unity, trust, and harmony, encapsulating the intimate connections that bind us together. The interplay of convex and concave shapes within the artwork further enriches this narrative, symbolising the duality and balance of male and female energies—reflecting the universal principles of yin and yang, as well as the dynamic tensions of positive and negative forces in life.

Initially, these pieces were created using acrylic paints with an oil glaze finish, providing depth and vibrancy to each painting. However, captivated by the rich textures and luminous quality of oil paints, Larisse transitioned exclusively to this medium, finding that it better conveyed the fluidity and emotional depth she sought in her work. This shift marked a pivotal moment in her artistic journey, setting the stage for her future explorations in light and colour.
